Sesame Seeds Processing, Cleaning & Quality Control in India
From Seed to Shelf
Sesame Seeds Processing – Cleaning and Removal of Impurities
Sesame seeds are sourced from selected Indian farmers and reliable agricultural suppliers based on quality and availability.
Raw sesame seeds are evaluated for physical purity, moisture content, seed appearance, foreign matter and suitability for further processing.
Natural sesame seeds, white sesame seeds and black sesame seeds are identified and handled according to their respective product specifications.
Raw material selection is an important first stage in preparing consistent-quality sesame seeds for cleaning, grading and bulk export.
Purpose: To remove dust, stones, sand, plant residues, foreign materials and other impurities from raw sesame seeds before further processing.
Equipment and Cleaning Methods:
Pre-Cleaner / Vibratory Cleaner: Separates larger impurities such as straw, leaves, sticks and unwanted particles.
Destoner: Removes stones and heavier foreign materials from sesame seeds.
Gravity Separator: Helps separate seeds and materials based on differences in density.
Magnetic Separator: Removes ferrous metal particles from the product stream where applicable.
Screening and Grading: Helps achieve consistent seed size and cleanliness according to buyer specifications.
Output: Cleaned sesame seeds prepared for further processing, grading or bulk export, depending on the product variety.
Purpose: To remove the outer seed coat from sesame seeds when producing hulled sesame seeds for food manufacturing applications, including bakery, confectionery, tahini and other processed foods.
Processing Stages:
Soaking and Conditioning: Sesame seeds may be soaked or conditioned to help loosen the outer seed coat.
Dehulling: Suitable mechanical or friction-based processes separate the outer husk from the sesame seed.
Husk Separation: The loosened seed coats are separated from the dehulled seeds.
Washing: Seeds may be washed to remove remaining husk particles and processing residues.
Drying: Controlled drying reduces moisture to the required product specification while helping preserve seed quality.
Final Inspection: Hulled sesame seeds are inspected for appearance, remaining husk and cleanliness.
Output: Hulled sesame seeds prepared for sorting, grading and quality checking.
Important: This process applies to hulled sesame seeds. Natural, white and black sesame seeds may be supplied with their original seed coats intact, depending on the product specification.
Purpose: To improve the appearance, uniformity and quality of processed sesame seeds according to international buyer requirements.
Processing Stages:
Optical Color Sorting: Color sorting equipment helps identify and remove discolored seeds and visually different particles according to the selected product grade.
Size Grading: Screening and grading equipment separates seeds according to size and other physical characteristics.
Foreign Material Removal: Additional sorting helps reduce remaining unwanted materials.
Product-Specific Selection: Natural, hulled, white and black sesame seeds are sorted according to their respective quality specifications.
Output: Sorted and graded sesame seeds prepared for quality inspection and export packaging.
Purpose: To assess sesame seed quality and confirm that the product meets agreed buyer specifications before packing and shipment.
Key Quality Parameters:
Physical Purity: Assessment of foreign matter, unwanted particles and overall cleanliness.
Moisture Content: Evaluation against the agreed product moisture specification.
Seed Appearance: Inspection of color, uniformity, seed condition and visible defects.
Product Specifications: Review of requirements such as grade, hulling level and other applicable quality parameters.
Laboratory Testing: Additional testing for relevant chemical or microbiological parameters may be arranged according to buyer requirements and agreed testing procedures.
Output: Sesame seeds assessed against the agreed quality requirements before bulk export packaging.
Purpose: To protect sesame seeds during handling, storage and international transportation while meeting importer packaging requirements.
